Selmas Saga is the story about Selma, a 7-year old girl living with her family in a 19th century steam punk version of Stockholm.

When her family is facing eviction from their simple yet much loved home, Selma decides to do something about it. She joins scientist Efraim con Trippelhatt on his airship Valborg on an adventure to the Northpole. The expedition sets out to find out if Santa actually exists, and if he does Selma has a wish that she will ask him to fulfill – that her family gets to keep their home.

Your name is Selma Traskvist, and you live with you family in the poor area of 19th Century Stockholm. Your family faces eviction on Christmas Eve, and you must do everything you can to prevent it. While hiding from a snow storm, you overhear a conversation about Santa Claus and and expedition to the Northpole, led by Scientist Efraim von Trippelhatt. You decide to join him on the ship Valborg in an attempt to save your family, as only Santa Claus can make any wish come true.

CLIENT & BACKGROUND

SVT, Swedish Public Television.

Every year since the 1960s, Swedish public television SVT launches a TV show for kids, with 24 episodes. One episode per day up until Christmas eve.

Nowadays, a game experience which takes place in the same universe is released at the same time as the tv show. The concept is similar, with one level unlocked per day until the 24th of December.

To create the graphics I started out by exploring different style directions. The different directions were communicated back and forth with the client until we reached a direction we believed in.

Mid-through the project I started to build the graphics straight into Unity, as it gave me more control and enable the Game developers to focus on the gaming logic. Together we collaborated on the level design, were I supplied the graphics and the developers created the obstacles that the user navigated through.
